8 Kinds of Writing You Can Do to Make Money From Home

Like I often share, I had no idea what copywriting was pre-covid and little to no idea how my writing could make me money. A few years later, I have met a couple of people in the same ignorant space I was in. That makes it one of my duties to let as many people as possible see the potential embedded in that skill they probably think is no big deal.

Now, if you have a knack for writing, there are many different kinds of writing you can offer clients and businesses in exchange for money. But in this quick blog, I am going to cover 10 of the most common and also lucrative ones. Trust me when I say you can start as early as today; It all depends on how hungry, willing, and ready you are to put in the work.

Shall we dive into each of the 10? Yeah!

1. Blog Content Creation

First off, what you are reading right now is a blog. And as much as I wrote this one myself, I could as well have contracted someone to write it for me and paid them for their work. Do you see where I’m going with this? Good. So, it should no longer come as a surprise when I say there are countless businesses and individuals looking for good and engaging articles for their brands and websites.

Now, polish this skill to a point where you know how to incorporate keywords seamlessly into your writing, and watch yourself become a superstar. It’ll mean you not only know how to write captivating blogs that readers love, but you also know how to garner search engine recognition. As a result, you’ll help client websites rank higher on search engines, establishing them as authorities in their niches. Believe me; you will make money!

2. Copywriting for Conversion

Compelling product descriptions, engaging emails, irresistible sales letters, captivating video scripts, scroll-stopping social media ads, and the like? Those are the workings of copywriters. As a copywriter, your job is simple— get people to take action. No, you don’t hard-sell or force readers to buy (provided you even can…lol), but you’ll simply make them desire what you are selling through your words. It’s an art and, of course, can be learnt. As you get people to take the desired action, you make your clients more money. And the more money you make for businesses, the more money you can charge. Makes sense!

3. E-books and Whitepapers

If in-depth research and knowledge-sharing are your passions, then you never know; e-book and whitepaper writing might be just your calling. Many companies usually need comprehensive guides or reports to establish themselves as thought leaders in the marketplace, and these pieces are a great way to do that. And, of course, they’ll need capable writers to do these for them.

4. Social Media Content Creation

If you ask me, this is one of the easiest ones to do, especially if you are already a fan of social media. Eye-catching captions, shareable posts, relatable tweets, and the like can elevate brands’ online presence.  If you know how to do these well, I’ll just ask you a question: What’s stopping you from making money already?!

5. Scriptwriting for Multimedia

Youtube, Tiktoks, and Instagram videos are some of the ways businesses reach out to their audiences. There is something called a Video Sales Letter as well, which is basically a sales pitch (copywriting) in video script form; it will be shot and made into a video. You can also do this for clients to make money from home.

6. Technical Writing

If you are gifted with the ability to simplify complex subjects into something anyone can understand easily, technical writing might just be your jam! Crafting user manuals, guides, and comprehensible documentation is an art that combines expertise and communication. Master this, and your nickname will be ‘hot cake!’

7. Grant Proposal Writing

If you’re passionate about contributing to causes, grant proposal writing might be your avenue. Nonprofits and organisations are usually in search of skilled writers who can help them articulate their missions convincingly. You’ll not only be writing to make money, but you’ll also be writing to save your favourite causes. Sweet!

8. Resume and LinkedIn Profile Writing

So many (if not all) professionals want to put their best foot forward always. Help them out by optimising their LinkedIn profiles so they can be discovered by recruiters and potential employers. You can also take it a step further and assist them in crafting impressive resumes to help them land their dream roles.

It is Possible

Working with businesses all around the world and making money online from the comfort of your home is a possibility you shouldn’t be ignoring in 2023. Take some time to examine what kind of writing you are drawn to and get started already. If you need to take a course to gain the required knowledge, by all means, do so! I will always say that one of my best investments is buying a copywriting course in 2020.

Stop procrastinating. A Chinese proverb says, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” Start already!
